2013 BMW X3: efficiency, power and technology with new 4-Cylinder TwinPower Turbo engine.



Woodcliff Lake, NJ – February 16, 2012… BMW of North America announced today a continuing evolution of efficiency, power and technology with the introduction of the new TwinPower Turbo 4-cylinder engine (N20) to the X3 xDrive28i. The new engine replaces the outgoing normally aspirated inline 6-cylinder engine (N52) as the next step in BMW’s EfficientDynamics strategy. It is scheduled for April 2012 production as a 2013 model with delivery to US BMW Centers in May along with the continuing BMW X3 xDrive35i. Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Prices, including $895 destination and handling, are $37,995 and $43,595, respectively.

In addition, the updated X3 xDrive28i and the X3 xDrive35i, now in its second year of production will offer new technology never before offered on the X3 by introducing new combinations of package and equipment options – a new Driver Assistance Package option (ZDA) will include Lane Departure Warning; and the optional M Sport Package will add 19” wheels to the X3 xDrive28i. The X3 also has several upgraded standard equipment enhancements as a recipient of 5, 6 and 7 Series technology. The new standard equipment offerings for both models are Auto Start-Stop, and Driving Dynamics Control with ECO PRO and the Power Tailgate. The 2013 X3 xDrive28i also receives 18” wheels, and chrome tailpipes tips previously standard only on the X3 xDrive35i.

The BMW X3 significantly extends its impact on the segment by establishing even newer standards created by its predecessor. The X3 xDrive28i and X3 xDrive35i builds on the success of the original X3 by incorporating new technology, options and packages that were previously only available on BMW 5, 6, and 7 Series cars. More technology, options and packages for both X3 models will now be available providing more agility, efficiency and comfort in the class segment that the X3 started and defined back in 2004.

Since the “M6” badge was first placed on a BMW back in 1987, this iconic model has exemplified the luxury and daily usability of a top range BMW coupe combined with true super-car performance. Now, in its 3rd generation, the all-new BMW M6 will again be offered as a 4-seat Coupe and Convertible.

The new 2012 BMW M6 Convertible will be the first to arrive in US BMW center showrooms in June 2012. The BMW M6 Coupe will arrive at US BMW centers in the late summer of 2012 as a 2013 model. Woodcliff Lake, NJ – February 9, 2012… BMW of North America today announced pricing for the all-new 2013 BMW 640i Gran Coupe. The $76,895 (including $895 Destination and Handling Charge) TwinPower Turbo 6-cylinder powered 640i Gran Coupe is the initial model of the range, and arrives early this summer. Later in the summer, the TwinPower Turbo V-8 powered 2013 BMW 650i Gran Coupe and the all-wheel drive 2013 BMW 650i xDrive Gran Coupe will join the line. Pricing for the V-8 powered models will be announced closer to the time of launch.         

The BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe is a new 4-door, 4+1 seat addition to the 6 Series line that successfully combines the stunning proportions, design and driving dynamics of the 6 Series Coupe with interior room and amenities for up to five passengers. Harmonious proportions, precise lines and sleekly contoured surfaces give the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe the unique ability to satisfy the driver who wants a luxurious and sporty coupe yet needs a car capable of carrying four adults in comfort and luxury.

The all-new BMW 6 Series Gran coupe will make its world debut at the Geneva International Auto Show in March and its North American premiere at the New York International Auto Show in early April. The 640i Gran Coupe will also be previewed at the Amelia Island 2012 Concours d’Elegance in Amelia Island, Florida from March 9-11.

Woodcliff Lake, NJ – February 2, 2012…BMW of North America today unveiled a series of six playful digital shorts as part of a new national advertising campaign in support of the launch of the all-new BMW 3 Series Sedan, which goes on sale February 11. Two of the shorts will also air in ads during Super Bowl XLVI in regions across the U.S.: the first entitled “The Big Grab,” in the New York Tri-State area; and the second, “The Close Call,” in the Southern California-Los Angeles, Atlanta and Houston areas.

Created by Kirschenbaum, Bond, Senecal + Partners, the national program features a series of six 15 and 30 second digital shorts that playfully illustrate some of the many new technologies that have been integrated into the all-new BMW 3 Series. For example, “The Perfect Seat,” illustrates how an odd couple – a driver and his much-taller companion – can share the driver’s seat thanks to driver’s seat memory.

Beginning Monday, February 7, select digital shorts will begin airing online at sites including NBC.com, ABC.com and Hulu. All of the content, including the Super Bowl spots “The Close Call” and “The Big Grab,” where a heated steering wheel saves the day when a group of freezing friends hop into the car, can be viewed online at www.youtube.com/bmwusa.

Woodcliff Lake, NJ – January 27, 2012 … BMW takes the development of intelligent hybrid drive systems to the next level with the introduction of the BMW ActiveHybrid 5 – another series-produced model in which a combustion engine and electric motor join forces to enhance both efficiency and the brand’s hallmark driving pleasure. The BMW ActiveHybrid 5 brings together a BMW TwinPower Turbo in-line 6-cylinder engine, an electric drive system and an 8-speed automatic gearbox for the first time. The latest generation of BMW ActiveHybrid technology also adds precisely controlled – and therefore extremely effective – intelligent energy management. All of which gives the BMW ActiveHybrid 5 an exceptional balance of performance and fuel efficiency for the benchmark performance sedan in the premium executive car class.

Its drive system generates combined output of 335 hp, allowing the car to be driven on electric power alone up to 37 mph (60 km/h) for 2.5 miles (4km), and accelerates the BMW ActiveHybrid 5 from 0 to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds (preliminary). The BMW ActiveHybrid 5 will arrive as a 2012 model in US showrooms in March 2012 with a base MSRP of $61,845 (including $895 destination and handling).

The 300 hp inline-6 with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology in the BMW ActiveHybrid 5 is the same engine well-known for its free-revving capability, pulling power and efficiency in the BMW 535i. The electric motor develops 54 hp and is supplied with energy by a high-performance lithium-ion battery housed in the trunk.

Striking design features front and rear, adaptive LED headlamps a new option.

The standard fog lights are now set in matte finish surrounds in the upper area of the outer air inlets. Their higher and more lateral position emphasizes the width of the vehicle. The striking three-dimensional modeling of the frame and newly designed bars, angled in the lower section, make the BMW kidney grille stand out conspicuously in the vehicle’s front end. January 27th BMW Performance 200, the opening round of this year’s Continental Tire Sports
Car Challenge, the 2012 North American sports car racing season gets underway for more than
50 BMW drivers gathered for the Grand-Am Sports Car Series 50th Rolex 24 at Daytona weekend.

The BMW Performance 200 will see the 16 BMWs entered in the Grand Sport and Street Tuner classes led to the green flag by a very special new BMW. The 2013 BMW M5 will serve as the race pace car and be displayed at the track throughout the weekend. Additionally, the all-new 2012 BMW 3 Series will make its second public appearance at the Rolex 24 only weeks after making its worldwide debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan. The opening round of the CTSCC season has been won by a BMW M3 for the last three seasons and the car has gone on to sweep the GS class titles in the last two years.

The BMW ActiveE is available by lease only at a cost of $499 per month for 24 months with a down payment of $2,250. Electric vehicle (EV) enthusiasts interested in leasing the BMW ActiveE can begin the recruitment process at www.bmwusa.com/ActiveE. Vehicles are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Calling All Electronauts.
The 700 BMW ActiveE lessees have been dubbed “Electronauts”. BMW Electronauts are adventurers and explorers; they are front-runners of innovation and advocates for sustainability. Most importantly, they are key participants in the BMW ActiveE Field Trial. Beginning in early 2012 and taking place in the U.S., Europe and China, the BMW ActiveE Field Trial will include more than 1,100 BMW ActiveE vehicles, produced at BMW’s plant in Leipzig, Germany. Throughout the field trial, car- and driver-generated data and anecdotal feedback from the Electronauts will be collected by BMW to deepen its knowledge about the everyday use of EVs and to provide actionable insights into electric mobility in urban environments. Once the field trial commences, information collected from the Electronauts will be made available for all EV enthusiasts and media.

In addition, the learnings from the field trial will provide direct insight into electric mobility in advance of series production of BMW’s first purpose-built, mass-produced electric vehicles, the BMW i3 in 2013 and the i8 in 2014. Concepts of the i3 and i8, the first two vehicles from the new BMW i brand, made their official North American debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show on November 16 and 17, 2011.

Spartanburg/Munich. The BMW Group is expanding capacity at its U.S. plant in Spartanburg. “We plan to invest over the next three years nearly $900 million in the Spartanburg plant by 2014. This will create 300 new jobs by the end of this year. This will allow us to produce 350,000 units in Spartanburg in the midterm,” says Frank-Peter Arndt, member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, responsible for Production, in Spartanburg on Thursday. The BMW Group already invested $750 million in the expansion of the plant for production of the new BMW X3 between 2008 and 2010.

“This is in response to rising global demand for our BMW X models and the expansion of the BMW X family to include the BMW X4,” Arndt explained at a ceremony to celebrate production of the two-millionth vehicle at the BMW plant in South Carolina since 1994. The move will bring the BMW Group’s total investment in South Carolina to nearly $6 billion.

The Governor of the State of South Carolina, Nikki Haley, spoke at the ceremony, saying: “BMW has once again provided tremendous evidence that South Carolina is a blueprint for significant economic development success. The partnership between this company and our State is an enduring example of how to attract, retain and grow business to stimulate perpetual job creation.”
